Islamabad: The rehabilitation of Karakoram Highway’s Dasu-Raikot section will be completed in the first quarter of the existing year, according to media reports published on Monday (January 31). The 50-kilometre long section of Karakoram Highway, from Chilas to Raikot has already been open to traffic.

According to the National Highway Authority (NHA) Member North Zone Mukesh Kumar, the rehabilitation work on the road is progressing at a fast pace and is expected to be completed within the stipulated time in March 2022.
After the completion of the said project, the section from Thakot to Khunjerab will be made functional. Kumar stated that the NHA will award rehabilitation for the last 8-kilometre long section of the highway soon.
Moreover, the total cost of the said project is PKR 2.4 billion, which is provided by Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and was being executed by NHA. The existing road has been rehabilitated by replacing the sub base and base while the concrete shoulders have been added to the road.

It is important to note that the Karakoram Highway (N-35) is one of the highest paved international roads in the world. The highway starts from Hassan Abdal and culminates at Khunjerab. With the completion of the said project, the tourists will reach Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) directly using Karakoram Highway from Mansehra.
