ISLAMABAD: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has awarded a PKR 10.6 bn contract to rehabilitate the Dargai Hydel Power Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as reported on June 14.

According to the details, this project involves both civil and electro-mechanical work and has been granted to a joint venture of two Chinese firms and a Pakistani company. The signing ceremony included Wapda’s General Manager (Hydel Development), Ihsan Ullah, and Nabeel Tahir, representing the joint venture. Dignitaries such as Wapda Chairman Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani (retd), Member (Power) Jamil Akhtar, and representatives from Agence Française de Development (AFD) also attended.

The project, funded by AFD, aims to enhance the Dargai station’s capacity. Completion is expected in three years, with the station generating 22 MW of clean electricity and adding 130 million units of low-cost power annually to the National Grid.
