Islamabad: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has expedited the completion of legal formalities on Daraban Economic Zone (DEZ) in Dera Ismail Khan, a news source reported on April 19. Daraban Economic Zone is also one of the largest economic zones in the country.
The zone is located on the western alignment of the China Pakistan Economy Corridor (CPEC), which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Balochistan. The DEZ is expected to be included in CPEC; the decision in this regard will be finalized in the upcoming meetings of CPEC’s decision making body.

The 3,125 acres of land for developing the SEZ has already been acquired by the provincial government. At the same time, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company is in constant communication with the local administration for land consolidation which is the only formality left now, as mentioned by Faisal Amin Gandapur, a lawmaker from Dera Ismail Khan.
Daraban Economic Zone is a PKR 56 billion investment project that will create many direct and indirect jobs not only for people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also for people in Balochistan. The DEZ will consist of 400 industrial units which will be built in different phases and are bound to attract foreign investment because of the ideal location of the SEZ which is easily accessible from all over the country.
