Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has announced that the Diamer-Bhasha dam fund has hit PKR 10 billion, a news source reported. The PM paid a tribute to the generosity of the people of Pakistan.
The amount required for the construction of the two dams is PKR 1,700 billion. Of this, PKR 1,450 billion will be spent on the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and PKR 300 billion on Mohmand Dam.

The former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar took the initiative of collecting donations by launching the fund in July, 2018. It was later joined by Prime Minister Imran Khan, making it a joint venture to overcome the country’s water scarcity.

The government sees the amount collected for construction of new dams so far as a success. However, the target is still far off.
