Islamabad: While presiding over a review meeting, Rawalpindi Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah asked the Small Dam Organisation to expedite work on the construction of the Daducha Dam – being developed with almost PKR 7 billion, according to a news story.

Reportedly, the commissioner also issued instructions for measures to taken for provision of relief to those citizens whose land has been acquired for the purpose. The commissioner further highlighted that water scarcity has become a global crisis and Pakistan is one of the most affected countries, as the number of dams per capita is very low.

Commissioner Shah added that the Punjab government was doing enough to address this problem, and that the construction of the Daducha and other small dams would save million cusics of water, which otherwise drains into the sea. To this, officials of the Small Dams Organisation informed that work was underway for the Daducha Dam and that funds worth PKR 6.49 billion had been allocated for the project. The dam spans over 60,000 acres and will take 30 weeks to complete. Tourist facilities along the dam will also be developed as part of the project.
