Rawalpindi: The construction of the Daducha Dam is progressing steadily, with land acquisition now complete and spillway excavation underway. The dam, once completed, will supply 35 million gallons of water daily to Rawalpindi, addressing the city’s growing water needs.
During a recent visit, Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak reviewed the progress of the Daducha Dam and other mega projects, emphasizing the importance of meeting project deadlines. He was informed that 18% of the construction work on the dam has been completed, with the concreting of perennial flow pipes and excavation of the coffer dam currently in progress. The project is expected to be completed within two years.

The commissioner also visited the Rawalpindi Ring Road project, where 40% of the 38.3-kilometer-long road has been completed. Officials assured that, with timely funding, the project could be completed ahead of its December 2025 deadline. The Ring Road is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in Rawalpindi, serving as a critical infrastructure upgrade for the city.
Other projects reviewed during the meeting included the Leh Expressway, Kachhari Chowk Interchange, Azad Patan Road, and the Dream Project. Commissioner Khattak directed relevant departments to assign tasks with clear timelines to ensure accountability and efficiency.
In response to public complaints about road digging for municipal services, the commissioner instructed that no-objection certificates (NOCs) must be obtained before starting such work, and the responsible departments must bear the cost of road repairs.

Additionally, the commissioner emphasized the need for improved project monitoring and strict adherence to quality standards. He urged immediate beautification efforts in Rawalpindi, including the restoration of green belts, with funds allocated to the Parks and Horticulture Authority for the task.
These initiatives are part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s development vision, aimed at improving the quality of life for Rawalpindi’s residents through timely and high-quality infrastructure projects.
