Rawalpindi: The Punjab government gears up to resume construction on the Daducha Dam with an increased cost of PKR 10 billion, as reported by a source on November 5.

The news source mentioned that the Small Dam Organisation of the Irrigation Department has submitted revised Project Concept-1 (PC-1) for final approval to the Planning and Development Department. Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha is optimistic to get approval soon so the work can be started on the project by the end of this project.

As per the details, the Daducha Dam is situated upstream of Soan River near Sihala on Kahuta Road and aims to collect rainwater from Murree and Kahuta hills, creating a lake in Daducha village. Once completed in approximately two years, the dam is anticipated to alleviate Rawalpindi’s water shortage by providing 35 million gallons daily (MGD) to its residents. It is noteworthy that the Initially estimated at PKR 6.4 billion, the project’s cost has escalated to PKR 10 billion due to rising construction material prices over the last three years.
