Rawalpindi: The government of Punjab is planning to hire a consultant for the construction of the Daducha Dam by the end of this month, and hope to begin work on the project by next year, a news source reported. The decision was given during a site visit by Secretary Punjab Irrigation Department and Commission.

The project is expected to cost PKR 6.1 billion, half of which will be used for land acquisition, and the other half will be used for the construction work. The government allocated PKR 1.7 million to the irrigation department during fiscal year 2018-2019 to be used for the project, and another PKR 2.5 billion during the fiscal year 2019-2020.

Construction of the dam will be done upstream of Soan River, and rainwater from hill stations like Murree will gather in the lake, near the Daducha village. The government has imposed section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act to procure more than 18,000 kanals of land. It is expected to provide 25 million gallons of water daily for city areas.
