Quetta: Quetta Division Commissioner Sohail ur Rehman Baloch chaired a high-level meeting regarding the implementation of building code in Quetta city and its surrounding areas, according to news published on March 16.

During the said meeting, the commissioner directed that all possible measures should be taken to curb illegal construction activities, implementation of building code and parking laws in the city. Commissioner Balcoh opined that the construction in violation of building regulations is causing serious problems, leading people to suffer difficulties. He stressed the need of getting all these issues resolved on a priority basis.
As per the sources, the meeting identified buildings without parking spaces as one of the main reasons for increased traffic issues in Quetta. It was also highlighted that the Urban Planning and Design Committee has been formed and should scrutinize all new construction projects in the city, including projects for which construction permits have been received.

The meeting asked for strict action to be taken against those who use parking spaces for commercial reasons. Commissioner Baloch iterated that Metropolitan Corporation shall be bound to ensure that all new and old buildings use their basement exclusively for parking and issue no-objection certificates to them after verifying the fulfilment of all statutory requirements of the building code.
