Rawalpindi: Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a crackdown against kiln owners who haven’t converted their setups to zigzag technology, reported a news source. The crackdown will start from March 1, 2019.

The agency has order the owners to convert their kilns to zigzag technology by February 28. Kilns of those who will not comply to the orders will be sealed. Reportedly, experts from Nepal have reached Pakistan to help kiln owners implement this technology. The experts have started guiding the kiln owners to incorporate this technology.

According to EPA Assistant Director Amin Baig, the kilns operating on Zigzag Technology have recorded a drop in production cost. These kilns produce stronger bricks in a shorter time. In addition, the kilns converted to zigzag technology produce environment-friendly white smoke. Experts have declared the technology safe for the environment, and instrumental to controlling smog.

Baig also revealed that by December 31, 2019, it will be mandatory for all kilns to operate on zigzag technology.
