Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced its decision to launch a massive anti-encroachment campaign against the food and tea kiosks found operating on the city’s footpaths during the night hours, according to news sources.

KMC Anti-Encroachment Director Bashir Siddiqui said that the department had issued seven-day withdrawal notices to food and tea kiosks found operating on the roads and footpaths of the central and south districts. The notices carried orders against the use of public spaces for conducting business activities. Further, the corporation is expected to submit its report regarding its planned anti-encroachment operation to the Supreme Court in two weeks.

Earlier during the course of several few months, the KMC had dismantled several cabins of social welfare organisations and traffic police sub-stations. It had been low-key issuing warnings and removing encroachments in various parts of the city to ease the daily lives of the residents and commuters.
