Rawalpindi: Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotic Control Department has approved a province-wide crackdown against defaulters of property tax, reported a news source. The crackdown will start on emergency basis from January 1, 2019.
To speed up property tax recovery, the Excise Department has sped up process of issuance of property tax to tax payers in all districts of the province. The deadline to get 5% discount on property tax expires on December 31, 2018. After the deadline ends, crackdown will begin against all property tax defaulters in the province.
In this operation, properties and immovable assets of property tax defaulters will be sealed. In addition to that, the defaulters will also be arrested.
The Excise Department has set 80% as the base for property tax during the current fiscal year. Along with 5% exemption on property tax if paid by the mentioned deadline, property tax has been increased by 5% in comparison with rates notified last year.
In this regard, Excise Department Rawalpindi has started to send property tax bills to the tax payers and also issued warnings of facing consequences if taxes weren’t paid on time.
