Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi has directed Civil Defence Department to launch crackdown against illegal wedding halls and marquees in the city, a news source reported. For this purpose, the department has been given the powers to fine up to PKR 15,000 on the spot and issue notices to marquees and wedding halls that have been established without map approvals or are illegal.
The crackdown will be launched from 1st January, 2019 and notices have been issued to 7,000 marquees and wedding halls.
According to new laws, marquees and wedding halls can’t be built on major roads of the city, GT Road, densely populated areas. Moreover, the minimum area for marquees has been set at 500 square foot and the wedding halls have been instructed to be kept fully clean. Other requirements include firefighting equipment, while furniture, windows and doors have to be fireproof, while each wedding hall should have at least 3-4 exits.
