Peshawar: A grand operation has been launched against illegal gas connections in the city suburbs, reported a news source. The operation is being carried out by the Sui Southern Gas Pipeline (Pvt) Ltd with the help of local police forces.

According to details, the operation is being carried out in Achar Kilay, Bahadur Kilay, Kohat Road, Charsadah Road, Warsak Road and Ring Road. During the first day of the operation, illegally laid pipelines measuring 35,500 feet were removed while 5,250 illegal gas connections were removed. During the same drive, 120 tampered metres were also replaced.

Reportedly, the local police force has also been reported of these illegal gas connections to carry out the legal proceedings. SNGPL General Manager Arbab Saqib has said that the operation against people involved in operating illegal gas connections will continue and those responsible for it will be trialled.

Saqib also affirmed that no relaxation will be given to people opting to have illegal gas connections, those involved in installing a separate gas metre or found tampering with it. He also stressed that citizens should apply for gas connections by following the legal procedure.
