Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal held a meeting of the Pre-Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) to review the preparations made for the 11th JCC meeting on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is expected to be convened next month, according to a news published on July 27.

At the JCC meeting, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood stated that China appreciates the efforts of Pakistan for the provision of a smooth and safe business environment and commitment to building CPEC with ‘Pakistan speed’.
Moreover, the meeting also discussed third-party participation and extension to Afghanistan. It was mentioned that the cooperation between think tanks must be encouraged to further strengthen the strategic economic cooperation. During the meeting, the minister was informed about the activities in the pipeline to promote the CPEC narrative at both the national and global levels.
Additionally, the Power Division notified the attendees about the upcoming 9th Joint Working Group (JWG) on energy meeting, which is scheduled to be held in the first week of August. It was disclosed that the 1,124-megawatt Kohala, 700.7-megawatt Azad Pattan hydropower project, and 1,320-megawatt Thar Coal Power Plant will be discussed in the meeting.

Reportedly, the minister highlighted the measures taken for the provision of power for Gwadar City and reiterated the need for renewable energy projects for the city. The meeting also discussed other agendas including IT, agriculture, and socio-economic sectors.
