Islamabad: Officials from Pakistan and China on Thursday held a meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the trade activities on the multi-billion economic corridor (CPEC) project, a news source reported.

Communications Ministry Senior Joint Secretary Altaf Asghar and the leader of the Chinese delegation (also party secretary of the transportation department Xinjiang) Lin Ping represented their respective sides at the session.
The Pakistani side further comprised senior officers from the ministries of communication, foreign affairs, interior and commerce, the National Highway Authority (NHA), Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), National Logistics Cell (NLC), and the Northern Areas Transport Cooperation (NATCO).

The Chinese delegation included officials from the international road transport office-Xinjiang and several Chinese government departments.
The officials held a detailed discussion regarding the exchange of information concerning the China-Pakistan international transport volume (during 2018), the present condition of the Karakoram Highway, restoration of the Kashgar-Gilgit bus service, the inauguration of a bus service from Lahore & Islamabad to Kashgar, the routine mechanism for holding bilateral talks on a regular basis, and the grant of multiple entry visas to drivers/crew members.

The participants also reviewed the problems being faced by the transport companies of the two countries, and discussed measures to address these issues. They also deliberated at length on a proposal to open the Pak-China border on every day of the week.
