Chitral: At the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Conference, held under the headship of Chitral Chamber of Commerce (CCC) President Sartaj Ahmed Khan on January 7, several civil society organisations demanded the CPEC route pass through Chitral.
According to a news source, participants claimed the route has been proposed because of the suitable geography and peaceful environment of the area. District Nazim Maghfirat Shah said civil society and the government had the same stance regarding the importance of Chitral for CPEC. If the proposed route is chosen, it would quicken the pace of development and bring prosperity to the region, he added.
Shah further said Chitral held great strategic importance, as a route through the region was the shortest path between Pakistan and Tajikistan. Participants passed a declaration urging the federal government to seriously consider making Chitral a part of the route.
