Islamabad: Development work on projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will resume, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) will be drafted for construction activities, according to a news source. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had previously given orders for this work to continue and further talked about announcing a relief package for the construction industry on Friday (today).

The government made these decisions in a series of meetings held to ascertain the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on citizens and the overall economy. Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar briefed Khan on the measures underway for increased interprovincial coordination, food security, and for the revival of the construction industry and CPEC projects.

The PM revealed in these meeting that a set of SOPs is being drafted for the resumption of construction work and allied industries during the lockdown period. He also added that there will be SOPs for worker safety as well. In this regard, the Ministry of Commerce has formulated a list of industries that will be operational during the nationwide lockdown.
