Islamabad: A meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG), formed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, to discuss projects in Gwadar and special economic zones (SEZs) in various parts of the city will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, reported a news source. The meeting will be held via video conference and will be co-chaired by the Planning, Development and Reforms Secretary and Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing.
To be held at Ministry of Planning Development and Reforms, this meeting will be attended by representatives from other provinces, Board of Investment Secretary, and other members of JWG. In this session, JWG will discuss progress on ongoing development projects in Gwadar and those on industrial zones in Gwadar and other parts of Balochistan.
Other projects of key importance that will be taken up by the meeting members include Gwadar International Airport, Eastbay Expressway, Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan, Gwadar Expansion of Multipurpose Terminal including Breakwater and Dredging Project and readiness of Gwadar Port & Free Zone.
Projects of social importance, such as Pak China Friendship Hospital and China Pakistan Vocational Training institutes, will also be discussed during the meeting. Power production projects, water supply arrangements and provision of drinking water will also be taken up during the meeting.
Talking to the media, CPEC Focal Person Hassan Daud Butt said that China and Pakistan have agreed to initiate Phase I of the development of SEZs and new industrial units will be set up in the country to boost trade activities. Butt also revealed that the next Joint Cooperation Committee on CPEC will be held during the last week of December.
