Islamabad: The much-anticipated Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is set to meet in the 3rd week of September, according to news sources.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on CPEC Khalid Mansoor indicated that the meeting may take place in Islamabad on September 23 or 24. Planning Minister Asad Umer will lead the delegates from Pakistan, whereas China will be represented by National Development and Reforms Commission (NDRC) Vice Chairman Ning Jizhe. The summit will cover topics such as the second phase of the CPEC and the timeline for the completion of the projects.
It was also learnt that a Joint Working Group meeting on industrial cooperation will take place prior to the JCC conference. Seven of the nine joint working groups, established under CPEC, have already convened, with the other joint working groups scheduled to meet prior to the JCC.
Among the programmes and projects slated to be reviewed during the 10th JCC, the USD 6.8 billion railway Main-Line 1 (ML1) is at the top of the list, with additional projects relating to agriculture, science and technology, energy, and infrastructure are also on the agenda.
Previously, the 10th JCC was supposed to take place in July, but it was postponed due to the security situation. The most recent meeting, however, will take place with a new CPEC Authority chairman at the helm, since Asim Bajwa has completed his tenure and retired.
