Gilgit: The Parliamentary Committee on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) proposed the allocation of USD 250 million for the socio-economic development of Gilgit-Baltistan, according to media reports.

Parliamentary Committee on CPEC Chairman Sher Ali Arbab, while addressing a regional dialogue on ‘The Role of Parliament in Promoting Trade, Agriculture, and Tourism under CPEC, GB’, stated that a national conference will be organised in Islamabad in December to address concerns of all the regions related to their share in CPEC. He went on to say that all the stakeholders including representatives from GB will be invited to the conference.

Moreover, Chief Minister (CM) Khalid Khurshid Khan disclosed that GB will get better connectivity with the construction of Thakot to Raikot Motorway, Ghizer-Shandur Raod, a new road from Skardu to Islamabad, and Shontor tunnel. Joining through a video link, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong stated that this multibillion-dollar project will provide quality development in the country. The attendees of the dialogue included GM Ministers Nasir Ali Khan and Kazim Mesam, GB Chief Secretary, Country Director Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, trade organisations, members of the Parliamentary Committee, and members of civil society.
