Islamabad: Parliamentary Committee on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Chairman Sher Ali Arbab on Thursday (August 26) stated in a meeting that no effort should be spared to construct infrastructure and provide basic facilities in Gawadar within the CPEC framework, news sources reported.

The secretaries of several departments attended the CPEC in-camera meeting, which was held at Parliament House, and informed the panel on the current efforts and development programmes. The committee chairman instructed the relevant authorities to compensate Gwadar residents who have lost their livelihoods, homes, and lands as a result of current development initiatives. He stated that the Chinese government’s USD 1 billion funding should be used to complete development programmes of significant socio-economic value. Chairman Arbab also stated that initiatives relating to clean water, electricity, and infrastructure must be completed as soon as possible for the benefit of the people of Gwadar.

The secretary of the aviation division apprised the committee that the Gwadar Airport will be functional by September 2023. Similarly, the chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority stated that discussions with technical boards and the Chinese side are underway to design the curriculum for the soon-to-be-completed (December 2021) Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute.
The meeting took detailed notice of other development projects related to agriculture and development work in other provinces as well.
