Nowshera: Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khatak on November 1 revealed that development work for the CPEC City housing scheme would be launched on November 18 by Prime Minister Imran Khan — with the project being developed under the auspices of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, according to a news source. The minister shared this information at a public meeting in AbaKhel, Nowshera Kalaan.
In addition to being a CPEC project, CPEC City further falls under the umbrella of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme that aims to provide affordable housing units to the country’s citizens. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also shown a keen interest in ensuring the project’s timely launch and delivery.

The project is expected to comprise of educational and commercial zones, apartment projects, theme parks, sports facilities, public buildings and a golf course. In addition, CPEC City will also feature industrial units to provide thousands of job opportunities to the locals. Reportedly, the project is being developed by the Frontier Works Organisation — with 40,000 kanals of land having already been acquired for the project.
