Islamabad: The Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Wednesday emphasized the need for developing the agriculture sector of Pakistan under the CPEC framework, a news source reported.

A meeting of the committee, presided over by Sher Ali Arbab, was of the view that the said sector had the potential to generate employment opportunities. The members further stated that the country needed to make improvements to its areas of research in order to promote technology and modernization.
The committee also called for collaborative efforts between the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the Ministry of Commerce to boost agricultural production which, in turn, would develop the country’s agricultural economy and boost its agricultural exports.

Moreover, the committee members noted that China imported USD 48 billion worth of meat on an annual basis. They stated that Islamabad should discuss the promotion of local exports with Beijing in addition to utilizing its livestock sector to its full potential.
