BEIJING: President Asif Ali Zardari met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday during his five-day official visit to China, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, accelerating the high-quality development of CPEC 2.0, and enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
The meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People, focused on expanding the scope of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), reinforcing regional connectivity, and fostering economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Both leaders highlighted the role of CPEC 2.0 in promoting shared prosperity and creating new opportunities for collaboration with other countries.

Discussions also covered regional and global issues of mutual interest, with both sides reaffirming their support for each other on matters of core concern. President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China, emphasizing the deep-rooted, time-tested relationship between the two nations. He praised China’s rapid development and its contributions to global progress through visionary leadership.
Following the meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place, where both leaders witnessed agreements to enhance cooperation in science and technology, media, clean energy, and socio-economic development.
President Zardari also formally invited President Xi to visit Pakistan, underscoring the high regard in which he is held by the Pakistani people and government.

Earlier, President Xi welcomed President Zardari with a guard of honor, while a group of children extended a warm reception. Later, President Xi hosted a state banquet in honor of President Zardari and his delegation, further cementing the close ties between the two countries.
