Islamabad: The Balochistan government has announced its decision to abolish provincial taxes worth PKR 1,484 million for financial year (FY) 2019-20 in order to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a news source reported.

According to the publication, the taxes waived off include sales tax on services in construction, hotel sector, and transport. The exemption will continue until June 30.
On the other hand, the provincial government has provided its approval for suspending the Balochistan Infrastructure Development System. To give relief to masses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Balochistan cabinet also approved suspending motor vehicle tax and electricity duty for the remaining part of FY 2019-20.

Meanwhile, the provincial executive sanctioned the ongoing funding and expenditures for implementing prevention measures against the coronavirus infection and treatment facilities in the province.
On this occasion, the finance secretary also briefed the provincial cabinet about the impacts of the coronavirus crises on Balochistan’s economy and its sectors.
