Lahore: The Punjab government recently waived off provincial taxes worth PKR 18 billion, and a special package is in the making for daily wagers to support them through the coronavirus outbreak, a news source reported.

As per the publication, Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar chaired a meeting at his office and said that the government would disburse PKR 4,000 per family to about 2.5 million families who had been affected by the coronavirus lockdown. He added that the government had allocated PKR 10 billion to compensate the affected households in this regard.

Buzdar acknowledged the fact that the labour class and daily wagers had been affected the worst due the countrywide lockdown, and assured that these communities would be supported by the government. He further revealed that the government would also be offering an additional one-month salary to doctors and paramedics dealing with coronavirus patients as a recognition of their services.

Additionally, Buzdar stated that the government had decided that 3,100 prisoners with 90-days sentences would be released immediately; except for those individuals who had committed serious crimes. He added that Personal Protection equipment (PPEs) had also been made available for the medical staff looking after the novel coronavirus patients.
