Karachi: The Sindh government on Saturday partially sealed 11 union committees (UCs) in the city’s district East owing to the rise in documented COVID-19 cases, a news source reported.

As per the publication, Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah’s spokesperson confirmed that the most affected sections of the UCs will be kept under complete lockdown. The government took the decision under the Sindh Epidemic Disease Act (2014) to save the public from the coronavirus infection. The District East deputy commissioner (DC) revealed that the decision was taken to prevent the breakout of COVID-19 from further spreading.

However, there was confusion in the media regarding the decision which led to panic spreading in the public regarding the complete lockdown of localities in the District East. Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah clarified the confusion later by saying that only the affected streets would be completely sealed. Authorities highlighted that security personnel would only be deployed in areas seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
