Islamabad: The National Coordination Committee (NCC) is expected to announce a 14-day extension to the government’s ongoing country-wide COVID-19 lockdown today (Tuesday) upon Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s recommendation, according to news sources.

According to the sources, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan – being the Chairman of NCC – will announce the way forward regarding COVID-19 lockdown after a high-level meeting with the chief ministers of all provinces today.

Meanwhile, the Corona Experts Advisory Group (CEAG) has made the same recommendation for Punjab – to keep a check on the spread of the virus and to increasingly screen the general population to avoid further impacts of the disease. The 12-member CEAG also advised against the opening of Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) in public hospitals of the province – for the risk transmission.
Additionally, the Ministry of Interior has extended the borders’ closure for another two weeks in a bid to prevent the COVID-19 spread.
