Beijing: Visiting Professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law Cheng Xizhong recently stated that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was going to be ‘controllable’ — a news source reported. He added that while the pandemic would, certainly, impact development work on the CPEC initiative, its effects would not be so significant as to be beyond control.

The impact on CPEC will also depend on how Pakistan deals with the coronavirus situation. The governments of both China and Pakistan have shown a determination to promote the development of CPEC despite difficulties. The two governments have also ensured complete coordination on the matter.
Even though flights had been temporarily suspended between the two countries, the Chinese technicians working on CPEC still managed to return to Pakistan through chartered planes.

Moreover, according to sources, CPEC projects have not seen any cases of novel coronavirus either — since the prevention plans were formulated and followed by all effectively.
