Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet on Tuesday approved the ‘Shuhadaa Package’ – a financial assistance package – for frontline medics working in hospitals and quarantine centres to curb the local spread of COVID-19, a news source reported. The cabinet also approved financial grants for journalists and their organising bodies.

These approvals were made during a Federal Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. As per reports, the ‘Shuhadaa Package’ grants monetary compensation to medics who die while performing their duties in the combat against the prevailing coronavirus. The ‘Shuhadaa Package’ for medics is applicable in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Furthermore, the cabinet directed Information Minister Senator Shibli Faraz and Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) Lieutenant (retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa to formulate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for grants distribution to journalists and journalistic bodies, like the press clubs.
