Rawalpindi: A local court on Wednesday intervened in Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA)’s operation against a private housing society — situated along Chakri Road, a news source reported. The court directed the administration of the housing society to halt all developmental work, and ordered them to first have the building plans approved from the RDA.

In addition, the court barred the RDA from dismantling the infrastructure of the project – giving the developer time to get the layout plan approved as per law.
Previously, the RDA had carried out an operation to demolish the society’s illegal structures, but the developer had produced a court stay order to continue development work. Following this, RDA’s legal team requested the court to direct the housing society’s management from violating the laws and get the required approvals post-haste.
After hearing from both sides, the court barred the housing society from further development work. It also prevented the RDA from trying to demolish the infrastructure of the project.

The court has now scheduled the next hearing for the case on December 19. Meanwhile, RDA Director General (DG) Nadeem Ahmad Abro held a meeting with the District and Session judges. He requested them to direct civil judges to avoid issuing stay orders to private housing societies — without taking the RDA’s perspective into consideration first.
