Karachi: More than 900 cooperative and private housing schemes are allegedly involved in corrupt practices and cheating public at large, a news source reported.
The information was disclosed in a forensic report which was compiled by officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and revenue board.

According to the report, over 200 societies in Scheme 33 area were established in a bid to illegally occupy land. Most of these societies were formed under the Partnership Act.
A huge chunk of land was allotted illegally for the construction of such bogus schemes. The land, purchased on throwaway prices, was later sold for billions of rupees after the construction of boundary walls.
The FIA officials said that the builders of such cooperative and private housing schemes did not abide by rules. The agency added that it did not have the mandate to probe into the schemes.

Regarding the formation of cooperative societies, the procedure is get registered a body comprising its president, secretary, and other members. The Land Utilisation Department later conducts a survey of unoccupied land. All the necessary documents are then forwarded to the chief minister for approval.
Furthermore, a master plan is prepared after which the scheme gets registered with the deputy commissioner concerned or the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
