Rawalpindi: As a measure to control smog in the region, City District Government has placed a ban on burning of hay, garbage and residue until December 2018, reported a news source. The orders in this regard were issued by the Punjab Agriculture Department.
Implementing the orders, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Omer Jahangir imposed Section 144 to disallow burning of material that could aggravate the smog this winter. With Section 144, there is a complete ban on the practice of burning crops or hay, and garbage including plastic and leather items and solid waste.
The administration in Rawalpindi has been directed to register cases against those violating the ban. To ensure that all measures are being taken to control smog, Jahangir formed anti-smog-implementation committees at tehsil and district levels. These committees will provide administrative support to implement related policies.
