Rawalpindi: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has expressed its intention to assist the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in storing rainwater in-ground storage tanks and upgrading the warning system for Nullah Leh to control urban flooding in Rawalpindi, according to news published on August 05.

WASA Managing Director Muhammad Tanveer recently hosted a delegation from JICA Disaster Management Division and discussed various projects associated with controlling urban flooding.

While briefing the delegates, WASA MD stated that the potential construction of underground tanks to store rainwater is being mulled, as similar tanks are already operating in Lahore and helping control urban floods in the city. The meeting also disused the proposal of upgrading Nullah Leh’s warning system and acquiring heavy machinery to clean the drains.
In response, the JICA delegation expressed interest in the proposed projects and iterated the resolution to projects’ timely completions.
