Reportedly, an authority meeting held under CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed approved the consultancy for the proposed southern Rawat-Bhara Kahu bypass — with the project to be executed by the military’s Engineer-in-Chief (E&C) Branch.
Under this contract worth PKR 10 million, the E&C branch of the military will be responsible for finalising the project’s alignment, design and survey over the next three months. Reportedly, the CDA gave the contract to the E&C due to its status as a government entity and its reputation for specialising in road works.

As per the proposed plan for the 30 to 40-kilometre-long and 600-feet wide southern bypass, the road is expected to start at Rawat, join with Murree Road near Bhara Kahu, before crossing the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), and the Nilor and Tumair locales of Zone IV and V. This project is anticipated to reduce the traffic load on several major roads in Islamabad.
