Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah announced on Saturday (August 21) that the civil work for the 26-kilometre-long Red Line bus rapid transit (BRT) project will be contracted out next week, with the project’s consultant to be appointed as well, news sources reported. The Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will start from Airport to Numaish with the assistance of the World Bank.

Minister Shah made these remarks while presiding over a meeting, where he also stated that a similar effort is ongoing for the 21-kilometre-long Yellow Line Project, which runs from Korangi to Numaish. In this respect, the minister directed authorities to begin the process of appointing contractors and consultants for the Yellow line BRT as well. Transport Minister Awais Qadir Shah, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, Transport Secretary Shariq Ahmed, and others were present during the meeting.

In another development, Mari Petroleum Company Ltd (MPCL) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Fahim Hyder met with Chief Minister Murad and handed over a PKR 3.123 billion cheque for the development of the district Ghotki. MPCL made the donation as part of its petroleum bonus and social welfare responsibility for the district.
