Chakwal: Despite the Lahore High Court (LHC)’s stay order on the construction of road passing through a wildlife sanctuary in the Salt Range, the Punjab government has failed to stop construction.
According to a news source, the Pakistan Public Works Department has recently started building an 11.83km road from Khokhar Zer to Darialah Villages, which are located close to the Chumbi-Surla Wildlife Sanctuary. The news source claims a member of the National Assembly is allegedly providing support for the construction of the road.
When the issue came to light, the members of World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) filed a petition with the LHC, responding to which the court issued a stay order on June 13.
