Islamabad: The government would commence with the construction work on the Diamer-Bhasha Dam within three to four months, a news source quoted Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt-Gen Muzammil Hussain as saying. He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting of the Implementation Committee on Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams (ICDBMD) held on Wednesday.

He said that the authority was evaluating several proposals pertaining to the consultancy services for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam; adding that bids for the project’s civil work were being finalised. He stated that WAPDA was taking measures to complete the dams’ construction at the earliest.

In response, the sub-committee on finance informed the attendees regarding the commerical financing models being used for the development of both projects. Members of the sub-committee on land acquisition for the Diamer Bhasha Dam said that 32,000 acres had already been acquired, which is more than 80% of the required amount. The land acquisition committee for the Mohmand dam told members that they had successfully procured priority land for the project, while the remaining chunk would be obtained within a time frame of several months.
