Gujrat: The provincial sports department has started construction of a cricket stadium along Bhimber Road, Gujrat, at the total cost of PKR 74 million, according to news published on Saturday (March 5).

According to the official of the sports department (whose name was not disclosed), the Punjab government has allocated PKR 59 million for the cricket stadium in Gujrat. Initially, the stadium was part of the annual development package of 2017-18. However, due to uncertain reasons, the project was delayed.

Now, the sports department has started construction of the cricket stadium on 89 kanal land in front of the Government College for Women, Marghzar Colony. Sharing the details about the stadium, the project includes a ground, cricket articles, floodlights, pavilion, 250 KVA standby generator, and drainage system.
Similarly, a plan to set up a hockey ground next to the cricket stadium will be proposed in the development budget for the next fiscal year.
