Islamabad: Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday (February 22) announced that construction work on Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will start in July under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), according to news sources.

As per the details, a concession agreement was signed between the Sindh government and concessionaire M/s Zahir Khan & Brothers (ZKB) for the development of Dhabeji SEZ. The said SEZ will be developed on 1,500 acres of land and will bring USD 5 billion investment along with creating more than 200,000 employment opportunities. CM Shah disclosed that extra land will be provided for the extension of the zone since many investors are eager to have a presence in the zone.

Moreover, it is anticipated that the Chinese investors will relocate their industries to this SEZ because it will emerge as a hub of economic activities due to its proximity to Bin Qasim Port and Karachi Port. Sindh Economic Zones Management Company Chief Executive Abdul Azeem Uqaili notified that the said project will be implemented in two phases of 750 acres and 780 acres.
