Islamabad: The Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders (ICST) has emphasised the need to construct more dams in the country, according to a news report. The ICST Patron Shahid Rasheed Butt has said that the construction of Kalabagh Dam (KBD) is necessary, without it the entire country can turn into a desert.
He further said that per capita water availability was 5,000 million acre-foot (MAF) in 1974, however, this has been reduced to 1,000 MAF, presently. He said that, with a rising population, the demand for water has also increased, but without any new dams the increased demand can’t be catered to.
He stressed that the Kalabagh Dam should not be delayed any further to increase water management in the country.
