Rawalpindi: The departments concerned have decided to start construction of Leh Expressway immediately, reported a news source. In this regard, Revenue Department has been assigned the task to arrange for right of way for the project.
For the 19-kilometre long project, private land on banks of Nullah Leh will be acquired in the first phase . This essentially includes the land around road linking Suwan Adda with Ammar Shaheed Chowk and Katarian Bridge with Agha Shahi Avenue.
According to sources, owners of the land planned to be acquired will offered market rate against their property. The process will be similar to the one followed in land acquisition for Metro Bus.
Construction of the mega road project will also require uprooting of as many as 5,000 trees. While measures will be taken to cut down as few trees as possible, fast growing myriad trees will be planted as compensation.
The authority concerned has made its decision to launch the project on Private-public partnership mode without any further delays.
