Lahore: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has placed a country-wide ban on construction of high-rise buildings around airports, reported a news source. The authority will control the approvals regarding construction of high-rise buildings in a 15-kilometre radius around the airport facilities.
According to the notice issued by the CAA, the construction of high-rise buildings and installation of antennas on such buildings is banned under the 1994 CAA Rules 68, Section 3. The developers and builders looking to construct high-rise buildings or install antennas on their projects will be required to get an NOC from the CAA. Anyone breaching the ban or found involved in doing so without acquiring the NOC will face legal charges.
The decision has been taken to ensure safety of flight operations during landing and takeoffs. A similar warning was issued back in August 2017, where the authority had warned the developers and telecommunication companies against constructing high-rise buildings and installing antennas within a 15-kilometre radius of airports throughout the country.
Back then, the CAA noticed that many high-rise buildings around the airport facilities in the country were being constructing without getting an NOC issued by the authority.
