Gujranwala: The construction of Gujranwala-Sheikhupura Road will begin in January 2019 at a cost of PKR 6 billion, a news source reported. This was stated by the Commissioner Asadullah Faiz while speaking to media.
He said that the road will be constructed through public-private partnership. 70% of the cost of construction will be borne by private construction company, while 30% cost will provided by the government. The private company will meet its cost through tolls and taxes on the road for the next 10 to 20 years.
The commissioner further added that losses caused to Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), Sui Gas, forests, PTCL and land requisition departments for the construction of road have already been covered at a cost of PKR 745 million.
This includes PKR 11 million given to the forestry department for cutting trees on both sides of the road; PKR 42 million for transfer of poles, transmission lines and transformers; PKR 32 million for protection of PTCL lines; PKR 10 million for protection of gas lines; and, PKR 650 million for property affected by the road that will be given to the land requisition department. PKR 956 million has also been allocated for acquisition of 100 acres of land.
The foundation stone for the Gujranwala-Sheikhupura Road had been laid in March this year.
