Karachi: Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has announced that the very first industrial unit is being setup in the Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) situated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a news source.

Mr Umar spoke at a ceremony which was held at Karachi Port for the arrival of machinery and equipment to set up a steel mill in the economic zone. He reiterated that the government had placed great importance on the projects under the CPEC umbrella and that they would strive to turn each project into a success.

Later on, he tweeted about the occasion on his official Twitter account and expressed excitement at the prospect of CPEC moving into the phase of industrial cooperation, which would lead to better technology and an influx of new jobs. Furthermore, the minister stated that the work for provision of basic necessities such as electricity was progressing rapidly.
The aforementioned economic zone located in KP is expected to play a prominent role in attracting foreign investment due to its close proximity to the first juncture of CPEC route. More projects are reported to be in the pipeline following the construction of the steel mill.
