The plan envisages steps to increase the hydel generation capacity from 9,406 megawatts (MW) to 14,000MW by 2025 and 30,000MW by the year 2030 through Dasu Hydropower phase I & II, Mohmand Dam, Diamer Basha Dam, and the project of 5th extension to Tarbela dam.
As per the official sources, the construction work is already underway on Mohmand and Diamer Basha dams. These dams will help store additional water for both irrigation and generating cheap hydel generation. Reportedly, the Mohmand dam project will be completed by the end of 2024.
