Lahore: Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda on Wednesday stated that contractors and machinery have reached the Diamer Bhasha Dam site to start construction, a news sources reported. He added that the contractors have commenced with the construction work the Chilas City in Giligit Baltistan (GB).

Addressing a press conference, Vawda said that this was the second mega project started by the incumbent government within a year’s time frame. He added that Mohmand Dam construction had begun a year ago and was now in full swing.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing, who was also present at the briefing, stated that this was a historic day for the people of Pakistan. He added that the project would significantly support the national economy.

Meanwhile, the WAPDA chairman said that that the authority had fast-tracked the mobilisation of contractors and machinery to reach Chilas. He revealed that their main target was to complete all diversions of Diamer Bhasha Dam project within two to three years and then finish dam construction and provision of power facilities in an estimated five years – commissioning the entire project by 2028.
