Lahore: Minister for Information Shibli Faraz on Wednesday revealed that the government would commence with the construction of low-cost houses and apartments in October, a news source reported. Addressing a news conference, he said that this project worth PKR 145 billion would begin from October 20.

The information minister said that the government plans to start construction projects worth more than PKR 400 billion during the last quarter of this year. On the loan programme for house constructions, he revealed that people planning to build 5-marla houses would receive loans on 5% mark-up and those constructing 10-marla houses would receive loans at a 7% mark-up. He added that the public would benefit from easy instalment plans to pay back these loans.

Faraz said that a meeting of the National Coordination Committee on Housing, Construction, and Development – chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan – recently discussed proposals for uplifting the construction sector. These included conducting international roadshows for construction projects in order to attract investments from overseas Pakistanis.
