Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday (December 31) approved the construction of a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Islamabad, according to media reports.

As per the details, PM Khan gave in-principle approval in a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja for the construction of a stadium that will feature the latest state-of-the-art facilities. He ordered the PCB Chairman Raja to use all the resources to complete the construction of the stadium as soon as possible.
According to Ramiz Raja, all efforts will be made to complete the stadium before 2025 to ensure the organisation of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches at the venue. He went on to say that acquiring rights to host the Champions Trophy was a huge win for the country. PCB Chairman stated that they aim to provide an international-level experience for the tournament. He disclosed that two applications have been submitted to acquire land within Islamabad.

Moreover, National High-Performance Academy Director Nadeem Khan expressed that the establishment of a high-tech international cricket stadium in the city will help the growth of cricket in the country.
During the meeting, the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) 7th edition was also discussed. Reportedly, the work on the said project is progressing at a steady pace and it was reported that the PM Khan will lay the foundation. The PCB officials are collaborating with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials to ensure the timely completion of the said project.
